Even it is not so revolutionary than its predecessor i think, that this one is still a very good game. Sure, from a technical perspective it was outdated even in 1993, because it does not look much better than the three year older Mega Drive/Genesis Port of the first Star Cruiser.
But in terms of gameplay this one does not make anything wrong, because it plays nearly identical to Star Cruiser and have some nice additions to it, for example the possibility to play most of this game also with a turn-based combat system. Also for a player of the console version you have additional new features that were taken over from the PC versions of the predecessor, namely countless optional side missions and an economy system.
The story is also still good with some twists.

The only real downside of this game are its controls in my opinion, especially in comparsion to the Mega Drive version of the first title, that were much more intuitive than this pc counterpart that have some clumsy controls, especially after you got the Hover Tank for that you have to use the Numpad and the Arrow keys at the same time to strafe and to move for- and backwards. In all other segments of the game (even if you have the normal Land Tank instead the Hover one) you can use the arrow keys to strafe and to change your speed, which make this game play like more modern games before WASD was established. Especially because the Hover feature is only needed in one mission it is annoying, that you can not change this control behavior.
