very good
but i forgoted all the time that this game was suppose to be a adaptation to the movie

When I was a kid I thought this game was pretty cool. Though I was hardly 10 years old, I am still ashamed to admit this.

The world is completely devoid of both color and detail and the character models are freakishly inhuman. Not only that but they move awkwardly and the enemy AI is abnormally stupid. Character designs are bland and uninteresting and the city of New York is completely dead.

The combat is not completely awful, but mainly because it doesn't have the room to be. you're either pressing X, Y, or B. It doesn't get any more complex than that. Luckily its almost impossible to stretch this games runtime to even 10 hours, but its worth mentioning nonetheless. Despite this, some of the boss fights are actually pretty cool. Electro and Green Goblin were actually kind of neat. The rest however were braindead button mashers.

If there is one thing this game does right its the collectibles. The comic pages turning into real life issues of important parts of Spider-Man history was a nice touch. The audio logs suck though. I don't give a shit about Harry's dad or some shit from the video game tie in universe for Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man.

Worst part of the game is easily the story however. An awfully paced and emotionless endeavor with poor acting and characters with no ambition or motivation. Things just kind of happen and then Spider-Man comes and fixes everything then says something about how death isn't the answer for the ninth time in the story. Also where was Gwen? She was a huge part of the last game and only gets a mention here. I understand they were "broken up" during the events of this game but considering she was such a big part of the movie I figured she would have a reasonable role because Sony or something but whatever. Probably best she didn't make an appearance though, story was cramped enough as it is.

As is customary for every Spider-Man game, the web-swinging must be critiqued with fine detail. The web-rush mechanic returns from the first tie-in game and is in my opinion a rather welcome return. Its fluid enough to be a satisfying motion between swings but can at times kill momentum. The plethora of animations afforded to this mechanic is rather impressive as well. It is going to get you where you want in a stylish way with no fuss. The swinging itself is slower than the previous title but in my opinion an improvement. The swinging of respective arms using the respective triggers is a neat bit of immersion and a cheap way to give the player more control.

This game is not worth the short time it will take you to beat. It is at no point unique or entertaining in any meaningful way and I would go as far as to say a disservice to the character of Spider-Man. It's got some cool suits and collectibles but they are nowhere near worth the trouble it takes to even get your hands on this game, let alone sit through its low effort drudgery.

Suit damage is cool though, that should be mandatory in every Spider-Man game.

A morality system... in a Spider-Man game. A MORALITY SYSTEM IN A SPIDER-MAN GAME!

For some reason I still have a soft spot for this game
