I never played this until 2024, and I'm ashamed of that fact. Although I'm late to the party, this is by far and away the greatest SNES game of all time. The story might not be narratively complex, but it's emotionally resonant when it needs to be. Despite it's age, none of the mechanics feel archaic. If this came out today, it would be just as highly regarded.

MOTHER 2 was my favourite SNES game for a very long time, but there's no doubt in my mind - Chrono Trigger eclipses it in nearly ever way. Insert Danny Devito "I get it now" gif.
