HOOOOO GOD I WISH I COULD GIVE THIS GAME 5 STARS. I can still acknowledge that its narrative can require you to get cool with a lot of things real fast, and some of the pseudoscientific explanations might not jive with everyone, but in terms of atmosphere, this thing is MASTERFUL. Unfortunately I can't rank it 5 stars because of Moma Kumakura. I can tolerate every bit of anime bullshit but him, he just creeps me out.
My absolute favorite visual novel at the time of playing through. I actually find the characters likeable or at least interesting across the board, the story is quite well written and not too crazy like some other visual novels and I really liked the interaction between Date and Aiba. Good twists that don't seem completely pulled out of your ass, really interesting worlds to enter and great voice acting.
AI: The Somnium Files can’t seem to decide if it wants to be a riveting psychological crime thriller or a lowbrow farcical action-comedy, and the end result is tonal whiplash more intense than Borderlands 2. On paper, the surreal dream-logic puzzles are a neat idea but in practice it’s an exercise in trial-and-error, and the solution you stumble into determines the course of the plot; lucky me, I seem to have landed on the least fun route on my first go. An object lesson in the value of first impressions. I’ll probably get back to it one day, but maybe this isn’t for me.
ok ignoring the really weird glitches and lag problems on the switch version...
I absolutely adored this game and fell hard for the character writing in this game. The journey was worth every penny and I was constantly at the edge of my seat once it got rolling. It never lost my attention after that and I thoroughly enjoyed it front to back.

The final plot twist of this game is probably one of the best experiences I've had in any piece of media. This game is not one for everyone, but those who like these types of games will really, really like it. Technically, it's not perfect. There's definitely improvements to be made UI wise and even gameplay wise. I liked it a lot regardless, as the main story and plot twists are just above anything else I've seen in gaming.
It's worth mentioning that one of the most brilliant things about this game is the way they use the medium of gaming to tell their story. This game has a lot of routes, and you need to finish all of them to be able to go for the true ending, which normally would definitely be a hassle but the flowchart mechanic let's you go to any point of the story as long as you've gone through it at least once. The value of these branching paths is pretty huge to me, because it's something that you can only see in videogames. You cannot replicate AI: The Somnium Files in a book, or in a movie. And while yes, this game didn't invent the concept of multiple routes, it's the one that better utilizes them to explain its narrative, it makes the moment where everything clicks a lot more special.

Simple one of the best visual novels ever made, only behind the creator Uchikoshi's previous creation the Nonary games. So much love charm and passion is so obviously poured into this game that nearly every character, scene, twist, joke, hell even line cannot help but make me smile. While it is a little silly the puzzle parts of the game essentially boil down to random guessing since you can never tell exactly how each of the prompts will work out, its never frustrating since you always get to see something amusing and its very easy to blast through again to where you are and the right answer. Humongous recommendation and once again only made better by playing the nonary games first.
