Psychonauts 2 is a very uneven game- but damn if it isn't good at what it does. There's gotta be over 20 secondary characters relevant to the story (the interns, the returning cast, the psychic six, raz' family...) and most of them don't feel like they really get to realize themselves, mostly because roughly 1/3 of the way in the game takes a pretty drastic turn of focus, and abandons most of that cast to focus on another group that is, to be fair, definitely deserving of that attention. The combat feels bad, too, and I still hate that Figments count towards 100%.

And... none of that matters cause this game is fuckin' sick. First off it is just such a sharply written game in the moment to moment that I am very willing to forgive the story hiccups because I just genuinely laughed my ass off at a lot of the jokes and gags. The platforming feels pretty great, although I wish that there was a little bit of challenge, and the levels are just as unique as ever- maybe with a lower batting average than the original game, since the plot is more at the forefront, but still head and shoulders above just about any other game, and maybe a bit more consistent in actual design to balance. It's just such an endlessly creative game that I can't help but appreciate it.

EDIT: Alright, so I went and 100%d the game (got all achievements too), and yeah, I still really like it. I will say, I was very right about not liking that Figments counted for completion, collecting them all was by far the worst part of the game, and I resorted to looking up stuff online very frequently. The Questionable Area?, the PSI King's Sensorium and a bit of Bob's Bottles (which are ironically some of the best levels in the game) were the worst to 100%, but overall it was a process I enjoyed, although it didn't really change my feelings on the game much.
