This is possibly my favorite 16-bit mascot platformer yet (not counting Mario here). The final stretch is guilty of some arcade design philosophies, with some kinda high difficulty, and, you guessed it, "gotcha" moments.

But goddamn, the charm and creativity more than make up for that to me. Every one of the 6 or 7 stages feel so incredibly distinct from each other.

Not only that, but once you realize that you can kind of abuse the very generous i-frames that your rocket boost gives you, and that attacking enemies also grant some i-frames, the game gets even better.

And Sparkster is the greatest mascot of all time, you know it to be true. His design is cool as hell, and he is filled with personality, and he's just a damn 16-bit sprite!
