Games I Can’t Critique Properly Due to Nostalgia

These games hold so much nostalgic and sentimental value that it’s almost impossible for me to think critically about them

This was the first video game I ever played on the first video game platform I ever owned, a teal Gameboy Color. I have fond memories of my mother and I taking turns playing this game together. Of all the games I’ve ever played, this one might be nearest and dearest to my heart.

Adult me acknowledges all the valid criticisms of this game and admits that it is heavily flawed. 6-year-old me says this is the greatest video game ever made. On most days I’m not inclined to disagree with the latter.

The Nintendo GameCube was my first ever home video game console, and this was the first game I played on it. I spent much of Christmas morning playing co-op with my cousin at my grandma’s house. I know this game isn’t great, but it was everything a turtle-obsessed kid like me wanted and that was enough.

Back when I first got this game I wasn’t into sports at all and the only basketball players I could name were Michael Jordan and Shaquille O’Neal, and the only reason I knew who Jordan was is because of the movie Like Mike. That didn’t stop me from falling deeply in love with this game from the moment I booted it up and They Reminisce Over You started playing. It’s a good thing it’s not just nostalgia and everyone else agrees that this game is basically perfect.

If my profile picture wasn’t a big enough hint, I’m a huge Dragon Ball fan and have been since I was old enough to spell my own name. Watching it on Toonami every Saturday wasn’t a want, it was a need. I needed to have all the DBZ merch and video games I could get my hands on, something my mother’s wallet wasn’t too happy about. The six DBZ games on this list are all among my most-played games of all time. Trying to critique any of these games would be like trying to critique my own hands.

This is the best Ratchet & Clank game and I will not hear any arguments to the contrary.
