Suggestion box – A Backloggd Cahier de Doléances

You may know my style. I muse on British birdwatching, Don Quixote in Resident Evil 4, social detective fiction about the Lost Decades, fushigi in Japanese art and much more.

Feel free to recommend me games I can write similar pieces – you might catch my attention even more by proposing an interesting socio-cultural or historical underlying theme that I can explore in said games.

Schedule is very busy, but I'll try my best!

Double Switch! — A spiritual successor and response to the developer's earlier game, Night Trap, which was infamously used (along with Mortal Kombat) as a scapegoat (by way of a misinformation campaign) in order to facilitate the creation of the ESRB and to enforce a system of regulation for video games.

I would still like to hear your writeup on one of the yakuza games (7?) Cause they treat their women like garbage and not enough people point it out

Theres also the Death Mark series which i dont really like but you may find interesting

oh yeah, but if you want a fun game that is good i always gotta recommend yomawari midnight shadows

@moschidae: On the Yukuza series, it's part of my own research programme, so I'll get to all of them at some point. For the rest of your recommendations, I was aware of their existence and they are both interesting in their own way, I just need to think about which one I'm choosing (or maybe both)! Thanks for the comments, in any case!

Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days. It’s got it all: orientalism, objectification, a not-so-nuanced portrayal of mental health, gratuitous violence, a bold attempt at digital verisimilitude… one of my favorites.

Rule of Rose, if you can stomach the survival horror jank, its got themes of how society neglects children and the mentally ill and just has strong anti-authoritarian and even sort of borderline anti-capitalist themes in general.

For an alternative if dealing with RoR's jank ain't your cup of tea, Chop Suey. It's a really interesting entry in the 90's PC CD-ROM games for girls that I think still stands up on its own merits. It's a just unique style of game we just don't see much of anymore. Theresa Duncan made neat games.

@conman, @ZapRowsdower: Games added! Rule of Rose is indeed a favourite of mine and I really want to play it again someday – but I struggle with horror games nowadays –, so I'm not including it there. Thank you for the recommendations, in any case!

Hypnospace Outlaw is a personal favorite of mine that explores the old internet and preservation in really cool ways.
