jesuslover754 reviewed A Plague Tale: Requiem
Hey gamers

Besides the performance, Requiem is an improvement over Innocence in every way. It looks better, I found the story and characters a bit more interesting, new mechanics shake up the uneventful gameplay, the facial animations are... well, they're still not great but they're a league above the last game.

The plot and characters are really solid. It's an emotional odyssey as Amicia and Hugo encounter obstacle after obstacle, all of which reveal or teach them the importance of trust and atonement. It lost me a bit in the middle when the story distanced itself from character drama to focus on a treasure hunt of sorts, but it brought it back in with a strong third act and gut-wrenching climax/ending (I sat like this for a good 30 seconds while the credits rolled). Besides the ending, the standout moments of the game were the exhilarating set pieces and creative chase sequences.

Though they are an improvement over Innocence, Requiem's combat and stealth gameplay is still outdated. I never felt any tension or excitement when approaching a pack of guards, and the mechanics you use to fight or avoid them are ones that were done better in games like The Last of Us, Metal Gear Solid V, Assassin's Creed, and Horizon Zero Dawn, all of which came out over a half decade before this. It's not terrible, but I'd have rather seen more improvements made.

It also annoyingly copies the Uncharted 4 trend of constantly having the game compliment its own visuals through dialogue.
