The game just isn't for me. I crashed my ship once, restarted, tried exploring again, crashed or perished what felt like again 100+ times, was like "fuck it," and stopped playing and finished the story through a blind playthrough YT video. I managed to explore a space station and two of the planets the major and minor astronomical bodies for the most part, but I wasn't very satisfied with what I found and the story that was unfolding.

Some of the game mechanics dealing with manipulating gravity, the view of the solar system from your ship, and like 15% of the story beats were interesting, but I was generally unimpressed. I don't see 15% (maybe 30-60mins total) of the play time being a sufficient return for what I found to be an irritating game to play. Sure, I'd consider some parts of this game fairly unique, but that's about all that's going for it. Apparently, there is some underlying narrative about life, death, and struggling against adversity, but I couldn't be bothered with going any further. I can see how that is cleverly incorporated into crashing your ship (dying) and restarting, but I don't find that to be very fun.

The whole game just feels like a pseudo-scientific brain dump of someone who recently learned quantum mechanics and physical cosmology exists, which ends up being pretty dull for someone already familiar - I am already familiar. Like it if you like it, but I'm not seeing the apparent masterpiece that this is. It's not bad, it's just okay, and I certainly wouldn't call it a 9/10 as the whole world seems to think it is.

in what way are you qualified to write a review for a game that after trying the absolute bare minimum, and instead of even trying slightly to give it another shot, you just abandon it?

The game deserves another shot, and don't look at it from such a critical angle, like you're TRYING to hate it. The game's way of unfolding the story is uncommon, and if you play more of it you'll see how much it adds to the experience. The interesting stuff doesn't reveal itself immediately (at least, depending on how you play), but it feeds you little tidbits of information about the secrets of the solar system and lets you follow the thread you want to follow. It rewards and respects curiosity and intelligence as a player, and by the end, you'll come out with a refreshing and unforgettable gaming experience.

All in all, you're "not seeing the apparent masterpiece that this is" because you practically HAVE NOT PLAYED THE GAME NOR GAVE IT SO MUCH AS A CHANCE. I might sound upset here because i am! This is a game everyone should experience, and if after giving it even a little more time, you're still not enjoying it that's fine, but don't get some superior and haughty attitude about not bothering to experience the narrative, because it'll cause you nothing but grief when trying new things.

I repurchased it, picked up where I left off, and played 15 more hours. I populated most of the ship log. I got to a part I couldn't figure out, I checked a guide real fast, and I didn't have it in me to keep going. My patience ran dry. I revised my review, and my rating will stand.

This game reminds me a lot of the prophetic reviews/feelings I got from fans of Muv Luv Alternative. I forced my way to the end of that 80-hour long game, and it was a very unsatisfying experience.
