It was a fun game, the combat was super enjoyable, some of the best Final Fantasy has ever had, I loved all the voice acting and character portrayals, everyone's personality was so well done and brought to life marvelously, I even enjoyed the pointless side quests which were mostly your typical fetch quests, but at least they added to the world building and gave more dialogue and interactions between characters.

The level design was mostly good aside from the horrendous platforming and puzzles that were clearly added in for extra padding to make the game have a longer length (Worst offenders were Hojo's lab and the sewers)

I have nothing negative to say about the OST. It was basically flawless, whoever rearranged Nobuo Uematsu's original pieces did a damn good job of it.

The story followed the original VII (Well the first 10% of it anyways) very well for the most part until the last couple chapters...

BUT there lies the problem, the BIG problem. Those last couple chapters were so fucking horrible. They trample all over the legacy of what made the original game so amazing and it became some Nomurafied Kingdom Hearts tier Disney fan-fiction. Death is bad and too dark, we can't have death anymore, everything must be magical and happy all the time, let's defy destiny with the power of friendship! I won't get deep into spoilers, but I HATE it.

On the other hand those chapters were still super fun to play and looked visually incredible, especially the final boss battle which was pure fan service, but was still amazing on a purely visual level. The boomer purist in me hated every moment of it, but the inner 13 year-old was like "BROOO THIS IS SOOO EPIIIICC!"

Overall the game was enjoyable and I'll definitely get the next installment because I'm more curious than ever before to see where they go with it. When the ending goes from remake to REBOOT it almost kills it for me, so I can only give it a solid rating.

Would I still recommend it? Yes because 90% of the game is incredible and maybe the ending won't ruin the rest of the game for you like it did for me.
