Bioshock as a concept is a perfect videogame to me. A game set in a underwater city where you can have various powers is a fantastic pitch for a game and BioShock mostly pulls it off. The city of Rapture is fantastically realised and the audio logs paint a picture of a capitalist wet dream where nothing is off limits. Each level is varied and shows a different aspect of this city on the brink of collapse. The story is full off twist and turns that had be enthralled from begining to end. The gameplay is where Bioshock starts to show its age, with the gunplay reminding me of Bethesda fallout games. The almost endless respawning of enemies was also infuriating to me as the environments are so detailed with plenty of secrets to find being jumped by the same enemies over and over again got repetitive. To a lesser degree the lack of variety in Big Daddies means you are fighting the same enemies even more option if you want upgrades. The plasmid powers are the saving grace of the combat as having different abilities at your finger tips greatly adds to the combat sandbox. Overall Bioshock is a great game that shows it age in places but is defiantly worth giving a chance
