I put myself as blind as I possibly could after the initial trailers the day of the announcement, and BOY was that worth it. The environments you explore, the bosses you fight, the level design, it all felt challenging and yet it was fun and fair. It took the best parts of Metroid and made it incredibly fluid.
The bosses, being a key part of the challenge, all felt fair to fight against. All their attacks were well telegraphed, possible to dodge, and incredibly skill reliant, while being punishing for careless mistakes the player makes.
The environments were varied and the ost help create the feeling for each locale. The level design felt that it rewarded creative thinking when using your abilities.
The EMMI were the most stressful parts of the game BY FAR and I enjoyed it. Even when they see and begin chasing you, you still have plenty of leeway to make it through the sections, and the feeling of catharsis after destroying one is great.
The story isn't anything outstanding, but it set enough lore and provided what it needed to to create tension and suspense to keep the player pushing forward.
Overall, Dread was an incredible experience.
