Breath of the Wild was a game I was honestly scared to sink my teeth into. I didn't buy a Switch until early 2022, but I had seen so much amazing content from Breath of the Wild by then. Ocarina of Time is my favorite game of all time, and my expectations for Breath of the Wild were higher than I feel any game could reach. In my mind, before I played it, it was borderline mythical. Despite me buying a switch in 2022 and Breath of the Wild soon after, I didn't really start playing until June of 2023. The gravity of my expectations made it hard to boot the game up, but I'm glad I eventually did. The game doesn't meet the sky high expectations I placed on it. But I can say it's still one of the best games I've ever played, and easily goes toe to toe with my darling Ocarina of Time. Placing the two on the same level is as high of praise as I can give Breath of the Wild. It's masterfully crafted, the world feels lived in and the scale of the world never ceases to amaze. I'm glad I finally played it.
