I'm generally not a fan of competitive shooters, but I've enjoyed this one, even with some issues.

There are elements that work in its favor such as short matches and the option to play unranked. At the same time, the matchmaking is questionable and the map rotation schedule is limiting. The game doesn't go out of its way to teach you strategies or help you improve–you're kind of on your own, left to search to Internet for techniques. It's fun when you're winning but can be a bummer when you're on a losing streak, unsure of what you could be doing differently.

The single player is serviceable. It was a fun enough distraction but does still feel secondary to the multiplayer modes. In classic Nintendo fashion, there is jarring difficulty spike that comes with the final boss.

This was my introduction to the series, and overall I have been impressed. You can tell Nintendo has focused a lot of resources in the series and is invested in its success. There is plenty of room for improvement, but there is a lot of ingenuity here that should be applauded.
