The most famous theory for this game is that Link is dead. And I (kind of) agree. Just not in the conventional sense.
To me, the game feels like Link mourning the loss of their childhood. OoT was a coming of age tale for a 10 year old. They have witnessed things no other child their age should and as a result they got lost in a world where they don't belong, physically and metaphorically. Their journey through this game is not one necessarily of pain, but of healing and moving forward from trauma.
