So this one is an improvement from Melee in my eyes, although I have a feeling a lot of people would dispute that.

Tripping is now a mechanic. Great. That's just what you want in a movement based fighting game. No real online, but this hasn't been used against it as an argument for it only being 3 stars.

I like and enjoy the game. It features a nice aesthetic across all characters, the roster is huge, music and sound design is great. It really excels where it does well. The only problem is the pitfalls really do fall hard. The speed of the game, although more on pace with what's to be expected, is just slightly too slow. Characters were just outrightly unbalanced (looking at you meta knight) and it felt difficult to enjoy at times.

The single player mode though, is something else. Subspace Emissary is probably, the one single player mode I would put up there in fighting games, as single player modes are often overlooked, but the narrative and style is really strong, which is something that a lot of the games around the time lacked.
