MUITOOOO BOMMMMMMM, PERFEITO.

While I might not think back on it so much anymore, it’s certainly true that a lot of my core, formative, gaming experiences come from platformers. The big two, plumber and hedgehog, are definitely the greatest culprits. It’s a simple formula that doesn’t need much innovation to remain fun and interesting for its audience; even when you’ve exhausted the game, extra challenges like speedrunning or deathless runs naturally arise, completely expanding the sandbox.
This is something that applies to many types of games, but platformers are where it really hits its stride for me personally.

I first played Celeste at a time where I felt like I hadn’t experienced a good one in a long time. The only game system I’d had for years was an Xbox One, and my older systems with more platformer games had been sold off. Xbox definitely had a fair amount of variety on their store, contrary to what people might have you believe, but none were pure enough to have me as hooked and often leaned into the metroid-vania side of things. I would spend a huge amount of my free time for years watching streamers play kaizo mario world hacks and difficult mario maker levels, because it was the epitome of why I admired platformers. I didn’t want combat or special abilities, I wanted a no-nonsense trial of pure mechanical skill, that ups itself in difficulty over time and feels great to overcome exactly in the way that is asked of you, I wanted it over and over again.

Just a month after release, Celeste found its way to me. It feels like a chance occurrence since the game wasn’t exactly over the radar at that time and I wasn’t very aware of new games generally. Regardless, it was the best 15 quid I have ever spent. Lovely art style and music, perfect platforming physics and a movement system that never stops feeling fun. Top this up with a straightforward yet touching story of Madeline’s journey with self-acceptance, you’ve got yourself a pretty perfect game. Never does Celeste drop the ball.

It was a wonderful time through and through, and was never afraid to supply more challenge than would be naturally expected. I often recall how I would wake up early to play it before my 7:30am bus to school because it was that awesome and the content never seemed to end. Finding all the secrets, beating all the C-sides, watching the speedrun evolve, playing super hard custom maps, and dumping a couple hundred hours into all of those fabulous golden berries; Celeste always had me coming back for the better part of 5 years. It feels like the game in a way, and has transcended itself in my mind at this point in time.

For how much status I place on Celeste, there’s an itch telling me that I should have more to say, but I don’t. I simply wanted to jump, and this game provided some of the best damn jumps, more than I ever could have wished for.

Celeste is an absolute joy of a 2D platformer. It is incredibly challenging (especially for me, someone who Is Bad At Videogames) but equally as fulfilling when you're able to clear a screen. Going into this, I knew the themes but I thought the story would be less prominent, focusing on gameplay, but I was pleasantly surprised. I wasn't crazy about Theo as a character but everyone else is really interesting and well written. Chapter 6 is a highlight in certain ways, with the Badeline fight being my favourite sequence in the entire game.

Celeste isn't perfect because of one thing: feathers. It might be my pro controller's analog stick but they are so annoying to control, way too fast and sensitive to any inputs. It held back Chapter 6 and the third checkpoint, which was one of the ones I spent the longest on in the final chapter. Instead of being a fun challenge like the rest of the game, whenever you see a feather it just becomes a grueling slog until you get past them.

It took me a real life year to get back to this game and finish it but I only had 9 hours and 43 minutes of play time. That's not bad to me. Again, I suck. 2790 deaths and 13 strawberries (I just wanted to finish the game okay) later, maybe one day I'll be able to boot this up again to play the post-game, but I just want some rest.

I love this game. <3
In terms of choices, I think it could be better, but I believe part of that was taken to focus on the story. And I love the simple and heartwarming story that I received from this. The choice is more if you care about the little things or not. The stakes aren't so high like in the other games, because the worst things happened before, now we are moving on and I love that.
I love Alex, I like her power (I don't think that we will ever get a cooler power than Max, time travel is just the coolest and scariest thing, but this one is great) that doesn´t need to be use all the time, like with Charlotte, glad I didn't stole her feelings. I love Gabe, Ryan, Steph, Charlotte, Ethan, Riley, Eleanor, Duckie and Pike, everyone stood by my side in the end and for the percentages, that is not very normal so I'm happy about it. To be honest, I have no idea how Alex survives that fall in the first place, but she does xD
After everything that happened to Alex, I decided to stay in Haven, I don't need adventure, just a place to belong and call home. Ryan and Steph are amazing friends and great partners for romance (better than Chloe, Hannah and Finn in my opinion). I romanced Ryan, but I want to try Steph too. I will finish playing when I get all the memories!
Chapter 3 was the best one for sure, SO FUN! Alto the bard will always be there! And the twist in the LARP being foreshadowing is nice. And the most hard choice in the game was with Charlotte. Great part!
I really believe that this game would be amazing in 4 episodes, the episode 4 feels a bit rush, just put it together with 5 and voilá.
In the end, I believe that is my favorite Life is Strange game. The part that is more important to me is always the story and characters and if it makes me connect and cry about them and it did. <3
And amazing soundtrack, but that is always great with Life is Strange games, but here was really in focus!
And I got in 8th place in the Mine Haunt game... one day I do better than that, but it's really hard xD

I finished all the memories and romanced Steph, she is a sweetheart. I need to try her story! <3

Best game in the world and the future. I am on my second play through to get this game %100 completed as it deserved. Goated game

At first, the game seemed boring (and tbh the first few hours are), but after giving it another try later, I ended up liking it so much that I completed it 100%.
