A hardcore genre-defining game that stands the test of time 22 years later. The combat is simplistic compared to the action games of today but it's still satisfying, stylish, and has the hidden depth we love. The boss fights especially with Phantom and Nelo Angelo were nothing short of badass. Since it was originally intended as Resident Evil 4, it stands out from its contemporaries because of its unique atmosphere, world design, and exploration. I'm glad I got to play the game that started it all for both Devil May Cry and action games in general.

I had my first playthrough on the game's Normal mode and had a blast! I do want to eventually climb my way up to Dante Must Die mode since action games are usually best enjoyed at their hardest difficulty and I enjoyed my time enough first go around to warrant it.
