COD games ranked based on campaign alone
Ranking each mainline COD game based on campaign. Will take into consideration, Missions, characters and overall enjoyment. I havent played COD 1 or 3 so i will leave them off this list. I also wont be including remasters of MW1 and MW2.

My personal favourite. It has everything that makes the first to MW games amazing and adds more. Some of the best missions in the whole series and sensational set pieces for a game over a decade old. It feels like an action movie every mission. Characters are at their best, Price, Soap and Makarov are standouts. Still hoping for a campaign remaster but looking unlikely at this point. 10/10

A great campaign through the cold war era. Mason is a great protagonist as well as the whole host of new side characters like Woods, Hudson, Bowman and of course Viktor Reznov. The twist of Reznov being dead is fantastic and makes up for this games not so fantastic villians. Dragovich and Kravchenko arent stand out villains purely because they dont get enough screen time. This game is more about Mason's brainwashing and what happened to him. Fantastic missions and some great moments. A classic. 9.5/10

I do have a bit of a controversial opinion of Black Ops 2 but i cant fault that the campaign is one of the best. It perfectly handles the split between past and present. It has the perfect amount of futuristic stuff not to feel like a halo game. All the characters are great in this but the stand outs are of course Woods and Menendez. Menendez is the 2nd best COD villain and is very menacing both when he is younger and older. Great mission set pieces and the multiple endings makes replays more fun 9.5/10

I hold this game very highly due to it being the first COD i played. Looking at it without the nostalgia i still think it is one of the better campaigns in the series. Introduces us to COD's two most iconic characters, Price and Soap. Has some amazing missions and really solid gun play for an older game. The remaster is also great and is a really good way to play the game on current gen consoles. 9/10

Fantastic campaign. Introducing Reznov, having multiple choices you can make throughout. Some fantastic missions. Extremely fun experience. 8.5/10

A bit controversial but i believe MW2's campaign to be the weakest of the OG trilogy but dont get me wrong its still amazing. Continues from the first game so well and introduces some of the best COD characters like Ghost and Makarov. There are the stand out missions such as No Russian and the iconic betrayal of General Shepard. A fantastic sequel which adds to the perfect OG MW trilogy. 9/10

Best COD campaign since Advanced Warfare. They managed to fit everything into the game without it feeling rushed. Missions were fantastic with each one being something completely different making it one of the most diverse campaigns. They made Ghost's character more than just a cool mask. Fantastic campaign and its a damn shame that MW3 didnt wrap up this series like it should have. 9/10

This COD really feels like an action movie. The right amount of futuristic. Great characters with one of the best villains in the series. Fantastic mission set pieces, especially that one where you jump from car to car. 9/10

Great depiction of WW2. General consensus of this game is that the campaign is the best part and i 100% agree. Once again falls victim to being too short but the atmosphere is fantastic and the characters are very well fleshed out. 8/10

Very underrated campaign. Great missions and some awesome set pieces. Rorke is a great villain and the soldier characters are great as well. I know everyone was disappointed that this wasnt about Ghost from MW but i still think its a pretty fun campaign. 7.5/10

I love this COD but the campaign is the most forgettable part about it. I like the whole double agent thing and its a really good twist. Missions are fun but once again its too damn short. Nice to see Woods and Mason back and Adler is a great antagonistic character. 7/10

Never really been a fan of this COD on the whole but the campaign itself is pretty good. It is extremely on the nose about its commentary on current events which i understand would be a turn away for some people. Again too short from what i remember but it at least had a satisfying ending. 7/10

This game really underdelivered and its a goddamn shame. Spoiler BTW ik this game isnt even out yet but the early access came out today. Rushed the whole story, the open world missions were bland and lacked any stakes. Soap's death lacked any of the emotion it did in the OG. Juggling to many characters with not enough missions. Could of done with being 5 missions longer and actually had some stakes. Missions are enjoyable and the general narrative is great, its just to short and rushed. 6.5/10

Only time i will complain about a COD campaign being to long. I dont mind the futuristic COD's, but this takes the piss. Might give it a replay as i havent touched it since i got it back in 2016.

This game is terrible, i think we all agree on that front. The campaign is the best part but its so short its not even noticeable. It has 9 missions. 2 of which are memorable. Characters are whatever and missions are meh. definition of mid. 2.5/10

Bland Boring campaign that is so forgettable all i can remember is the stupid it was all a dream bullshit they pulled at the end. Mindless forgettable characters and boring missions. Only part of this game that is bad. 2/10
