I'm gonna try and do no spoilers, but I will talk about the themes and arcs of this game. Yeah it has been 2 years since the game came out but if somehow you managed to avoid spoilers this game is definitely worth trying to go in blind.

Goddamn I did not think this game would work for me.

I came in expecting to like this game a lot, but I didn't think I would like it this much. I have been relatively spoiled on this game before playing it, knowing a lot of the major events and the ending. I didn't expect this game to make me love Abby this much, I didn't expect this game to make me cry in the ways that it did, and I didn't expect to come out of this game struggling to decide which TLOU game I like more.

As with the first Last of Us, this game is not perfect. Where TLOU 1 had a top tier story with fairly okay gameplay, this game makes pretty decent improvements in its combat while still being relatively basic and simple, but overall this game is just a bit too long. I don't know where they could've shortened anything to tell the story this game wanted to tell, but it suffers a tiny bit as a result.

The way Ellie and Abby's stories parallel and contrast each other so vastly is one of the game's biggest strengths. Ellie's story of revenge and being so completely unable to move on from a traumatic event, contrasted with Abby's story of trying to become a better person after going through the same kind of obsession with revenge as Ellie.

This story is so effective in the way it had me so thoroughly change my mind about a character that I hated. I love the way this story gets you to think about the opposite perspectives to the characters I love. It wants you to try to empathize or at least try to understand the motivations of most characters and factions in the game (except for the generic ass random evil guys l at the end) It wants you to think that maybe Abby was justified in what she did, and have you not know what to think about that.

but yeah erm i did like this game a lot.
