So very much wordier than the first half!
I can't help but feel like the order of the episodes between both games could have been arranged a bit better. Mika's disappearence may have been a great cliffhanger, but the high personal stakes of that story made the next three episodes feel sort of limp in comparison. The phone episode was particularly lame.
Taken individually, each story (phone caller aside) is pretty strong. I also like Yukari's overarching plot thread even if it's kind of simple.
The girls are still just as oddly believable as always: poking fun and chastising each other whenever they're not in the face of certain death. You don't see serious stories attempt to have such relatable characters like this very often. They really take every opportunity to pal around and tease each other.
Because the stories are so much lengthier this time, failure was much more punishing. The lack of mid-dialogue saves means that you either waste time, cheese with savestates, or consult the excellent guide at riroa.com. This game must have been hell back when it released, because either my reading comprehension is crap or the answers that will get you killed are very hard to spot.
The automatic text advance from the first half is gone though, so you can at least proceed at your own pace.
The audio designer is still clearly putting in the most overtime: really stand out sounds and ambiance start to finish.
Overall, a lot of well done scary stories.
