This game knocks it out of the park in terms of aesthetics and soundtrack. The gameplay, however, leaves a lot to be desired. R: Racing Evolved was an attempt to deviate from Ridge Racer's trademark arcadey feel and pivot to a more realistic and grounded approach. Unfortunately, they failed in their attempt to do so, as the end-product is a floaty mess, which absolutely does not mesh well with the realistic approach. Most cars, barring a few exceptions, are not fun to drive. Another glaring issue is the noticeable lack of track variety. The short campaign spanning 3 hours will have you repeating some courses upwards to 5 times. If the game was any longer, I would've dropped it, which is a shame since it excels in all aspects but gameplay.
