For context, Katamari Damacy never got a European release, so We Love Katamari is my first time with the series, and no matter how many times I revisit Damacy, it feels far too overshadowed by its successor to hold up today.
Levels are repetitive, there's less of a sense of "scale", the timer is far too lenient, ensuring you 100% levels with minutes to go and while hidden in its colourful absurdity, there's something about Damacy that feels somewhat "off" and mean-spirited, while WLK feels like it has a lot more heart.
It's the iconic one that I'd have no issue seeing as someone's first experience with the series, but it's most certainly not the series at its peak.
