Alone in the Dark wasn’t great after being intrigued by the Prologue/Demo version. It wasn’t as narrative and story-driven as the Prologue which was deeply disappointing for me.

The vast majority of the story is through the clues, puzzles and collectibles that you collect during your exploration of the Manor; which is a very dull and boring way to add story elements to a game. The gameplay itself wasn’t all that thrilling as the action and exploration are just adequate. The best part of the game is the settings as the building and location is detailed. Plus, I hated the puzzles.

However, it also had a lot of glitches I experienced. Plus, the story just became more and more messy and I just felt disengaged by around Chapter 3 out of 5. I wonder if I chose the girl character, if it would’ve been interesting as with David Harbour it was a very generic story with lots of messy plot. Plus, the voice acting felt plain despite the pedigree of these Hollywood actors.

All in all, it was somewhat bold of me to try a horror, puzzle and exploration game since I generally steer clear from those genres in gaming. However, this title just reaffirms why I dislike those gaming genres. I feel like if you do like puzzle and horror games you might enjoy it more than me but only for you to consider average as opposed to bad like I think of it.
