Control is an interesting beast. This game's story had me instantly hooked with the mysterious Oldest House, these cool Objects of Power like the Service Weapon, which has a killer design. Unfortunately, as I ventured deeper into this mystery, I was extremely disappointed with how shallow the game's lore is. The Oldest House literally appeared out of nowhere, can't be seen by anyone except the FBC, and very obviously doesn't obey the laws of physics, which is really cool on its own but makes me want to figure out more about it. Except for the fact that that's all the game really gives me other than the fact that it gets irritable bowel syndrome and moves its innards around from time to time. I was excited I figure out what the other Objects of Power were when the Service Weapon had such a cool design. I was confused to find out that all of the rest are just regular objects that kind of do whatever they want sometimes and give you powers? From the Board? Who is what exactly? Remedy succeeded in catching my interest but failed in doing anything interesting with it. All the lore the game throws at you isn't explained very well, and if it is, it's just kinda boring. The only other part of this game was the combat, which started dull, got really, really cool as I had more and more powers and weapon forms, and then got boring again by the end of the game. The mod system is uninspired and something I barely even paid attention to; it only gives minor stat boosts. This game is at its best when you're flying around throwing shit at people, and it's worst when that's the only thing you've been doing for the past 5 hours. Control did manage to keep me till the end, but I ended up dreading the time I spent on this game. Someone more patient than me might've enjoyed this game, but it just wasn't enough for me, and I even got it for free.
