I'm so torn on how to feel about this game, it honestly feels a little like Stockholm Syndrome, haha. I spent a big chunk of time playing and thoroughly enjoying it because there's so much it DOES get right as far as soulslikes go. There were some irritating bits, namely the wonky focus, it never seemed to work right. And there were some enemy areas that were flat frustrating. I also beat nearly every boss on the first or second try, which isn't so much a complaint as I just found it interesting that I would struggle in an area and then go on to smash the boss 9 times out of 10. But the world, the Umbral mechanic, the combat (in most ways), the fashion, the NPCs, the vibes... are very good. There was just one thing in particular about it that bummed me out and tainted my entire experience to the point that I had to write my first game review (this one): the last boss (for the "good" ending). It's not a technical, interesting boss, it's just infuriating to the point that I gave up. And I don't give up in souls games, I love the challenge, they're my favorite genre. But the last boss is truly awful. Which is so sad considering the game up until that point was a solid 4.5/5. Bummer.

EDIT: Updating my rating from a 3 to 4 for the new update they just released. Giving the player lots more customization is always a good thing imo, and had this update existed when I wrapped up my playthrough, I would have pushed through the final boss and probably had a slightly better time. I'd recommend giving this game a shot at this point.
