I had this when the Saturn came out but I never completed it and I think I know why. Some or the dungeons and puzzles are very, very obtuse. After a couple of hours of aimless wandering I had to bite the bullet and consult a guide. It's a nice looking 2d action rpg but there isn't much story going on. What does shine is the combat and magic system. You inherit different elemental spirits as you progress and their abilities are really fun to use and solve puzzles with. Combat wise each weapon has a move set and special attacks which are quite advanced for the time and still feel great to use now. It's worth a look as there isn't much like this on the Saturn.

Imagine taking the train in to your local city and picking up the Sega CD copy as well as a copy of The Shadowthrone. Looking around the carriage on the way home thinking how infantile everyone else's interests are as you clutch two of the most important pieces of art of the 90's. So yeah, what an interesting game!
In terms of it's genre it's probably more fitting to brand it a visual novel/point and click type affair with some first person gun play sections. What makes it interesting is the mature story. The protagonist Gillian Seed is a "Junker" whose job is to hunt shapeshifting menaces known as Snatchers. There's amnesia, there's a love story and there's anti Russian sentiment if you haven't got enough of that in recent times. It's probably an acquired taste but I found the art direction and soundtrack absolutely brilliant when considering the time and peers that this game was up against. It's very unique and I think it's worth the time to experience an innovative piece of art made by one of the most creative minds in video gaming.

Wow this game. I think it's the best rail shooter ever made. Stylistically it's absolutely mental. The art direction is excellent, the OST is full of high octane, pumping electronic soundscapes and most importantly the gameplay is so damn fun. I think there's another best that this game achieved and that's in regards to the use of the Wiimote. It harkens back to the feel of playing a shooter in 90's arcades. In true Treasure form, this game is bloody hard as it's really a rail/bullet hell shooter. As you weave manically through the different levels, explosive patterns are thrown at you everywhere which take savant like vision to interpret and avoid. Then there's the monstrous bosses who materialise several times per area and sometimes take many attempts to thwart but when you finally beat them it's a souls like euphoria. I'm currently on the last boss and taking a breather as I've had at least 30 attempts at this post apocalyptic, behemoth of a thing. I think everybody who considers themselves a game aficionado should play this as I think it's one of the most underrated games ever made. Play it!
