Honestly, wasn't looking forward to starting this one. I had an aversion to the setting and wasn't sure I'd muster up enough interest in diving deeper into the goings on of 16th century Europe. Turns out, it's interesting enough to get involved in the life of a town with an identity crisis, in a period where clashing histories loom over the uncertainties of the present just as the echoes of your own actions will haunt its future. Pentiment's at its best in those moments, where the dormant past springs to life and feels like an apparition, makes remembrance feel visceral.
