One of the most enthralling simulators I've played. minimal design but even the free version is incredibly deep and I've spent entire days at my job (very chill retail job) booking a fictional company. I have some goals I wanna hit before I try the paid version and I'll re-review it then with something more real but I had to put something out for this game.

i am not immune to gacha games

Despite its flaws its still a fun time.

I didn't have high expectations for the story but so much of the gameplay gets in the way of itself at times. Combat feels slow because of all the badass Hokuto Shinken moves you can do. Bosses are both too easy and too hard. Too much filler of running in circles to talk to a guy to Change the time of day to go talk to another guy to go change the time of day again to talk to someone. Even if I enjoy it the side content games like Cabaret or Bartending feel way more tacked on than anything like the Pocket Circuit or Taxi Driving in Yakuza.

Much like other RGG titles the game really shines in its substories, taking a stoic buff weirdo and putting him in situations where he's out of place worked for 7 yakuza games and it continues to work here.

Play this if you like RGG titles already or wanna see dudes heads get exploded.

Its really cool that instead of sitting on a shitty flash website to play a game like this I get to support the developer with $3 and then get regular updates to an already really fun game

I was really excited to dig into this one but was pretty let down. There's a cool story buried away under frustrating pacing and some of the worst required gameplay mechanics in the franchise. Any time I felt like I was making good progress in the game and having a good time following the story I was hit with a required tailing mission with no warning and it really just grinds the game to a stop for me. It's made more frustrating when the story feels like it's picking up speed and then the required main objective is to do something that would've been completely fine as a substory.

on the positives this feels like the best substories have been in RGG games and Yagami's combat styles while a bit weird to adjust to feel really good after leveling combo speed up. I enjoyed the ending and getting to know a group of characters that I hope continue beyond the sequel, and very excited at the prospect of Yagami's Journey crossing paths with Ichiban's at some point. Hope I like Lost Judgment a whole lot more though.

I have tried to start this game on 5 different occasions with at least 3 hours dedicated to it and I give up every single time.

Tokyo Jungle might be the fastest I've ever been sold on a video game from just a trailer. An incredibly interesting and fun game that deserves some kind of update, port, or sequel.

It's a shame Sony's mission now is to just create cinematic third-person over the shoulder action adventure dramas because titles like Tokyo Jungle alongside the majority of Japan Studios library highlight what made the Playstation stand on its own instead of being THE third party console.

2018

I just wanted to be the first to review this game on this site

man this game is hard

What if you combined Smash Bros with Struggle Battles from Kingdom Hearts 2

Its incredible to me that despite its great visual and combat overhaul I went from playing Phantasy Star Online 2 for 2-3 hours every day (even after having a job again following covid layoffs) to not really wanting to log in period.

The gameplay loop is so stale and unsatisfying. The trade off for an open map is just no guided content. After you finish all the towers and story quests you just grind out daily quests. I know PSO2 launched with barebones content and we were spoiled with its global release but its really disappointing to see a game I love playing become incredibly stale.

a 2D platform fighting game similar to smash bros, but with one piece characters. Really stiff and not great, but it's worth a 10 minute session if you're a fan of the series.

The most interesting thing about the game is that it was brought over to Europe with English text over Japanese dialogue for the ps1 in 2003, 3 years after the release of the PS2 and a year before 4Kids first dubbed the show for western audiences.

oh and you can unlock and play as Pandaman

It's VAGUELY like Mario Party, but One Piece themed. I played the western release which was edited to remove certain things that hadn't made it to the 4Kids version (while leaving in stuff from Skypeia, which never made it to the west under them) which also means it has THOSE voice actors in it.

Instead of a game board like Mario Party, each player is a member of the Straw Hat Crew fighting for squares on a grid which have a randomly determined Berry value, which made jumping in to the game without reading any sort of tutorial or instructions made it incredibly difficult to figure out what was going on and much like Mario Party, the friend I was playing with suddenly won at the last second.

The problem is that none of the mini games are very good, like at all, they're all clunky with bad controls and are either way too fast or go on way too long. Much like most anime games there is some charm found in the game if you're a fan of the series it's a part of, but it really ends there. It's interesting to see certain characters that never interacted in the series have conversations together, like Nico Robin and Don Krieg, but it doesn't make up for the fact that the game just... isn't very fun.
