AlasEarwax reviewed What the Bat?
Its novelty quickly wears off. There were some genuinely exciting gimmicks. But most of the time it was just repeats of previous solutions. The controller tracking wasn’t amazing. I would miss swings often, the bat passing right through objects. The music was repetitive and quickly got on my nerves.

I was expecting the game to be full of easter eggs/secrets, but they’re basically nonexistent. You just solve the puzzle and you’re done. Also, the game abruptly boots you out of the level when you complete the last solution, with no warning. Felt anticlimactic.

The best levels
1. Catching basketballs with your head basket
2. Plugging the pipe holes using both bats.
3. Lowering the horse into the museum past the lasers à la Mission Impossible.

AlasEarwax abandoned Runner
I bought this just for the Akira vibes. It turns out it’s a fun arcadey shooter with very difficult boss fights. My biggest gripe with Runner is that the controls are sometimes rough, especially when using the melee blade or the grenades. Those never felt good to use. Also, the tracking wasn’t perfect; shooting missiles was irritating since it looked like my sights were set on the missiles, but I was missing.

The music was great! Also, visually it looks like a ps2/ps3 game in a good way. Still it’s a little disappointing visually when viewed in VR. There is a muddiness to all the textures. But the framerate is stable, so it’s worth the tradeoff in visual quality.

I loved the visual novel that’s included! It’s not the best writing, but I liked the characters and they all have voice acting. I thought the story was compelling too. Unfortunately, the story didn’t continue in the actual shooter game. That was a big letdown. The ending does have some story but it’s bare bones and loosely addresses the plot of the visual novel.

I had to quit Runner because I didn’t find the gameplay to be compelling over its full runtime. The bosses were very difficult even in easy mode and I found the controls to be too irritating.
