I'll say one thing right off the bat: this game has a lot of really good Namco remixes. If one checks out anything about this game, check out the soundtrack.

The game itself is pretty unique, and I can imagine people not getting it like they can with simpler "hit the button when this object hits the other object" rhythm games. It looks like a version of Ouendan, except it plays like you're playing a rail shooter with a DualShock, moving the character to each of the "targets". One may be able to stumble through the easiest song in the game, but the tutorial is necessary. You can pick up the notes and overlap them with other notes, there's the whole "overlapping notes play each other" mechanic, and each character has different abilities that can make songs easier to play or even add a unique twist to the gameplay. I did have some fun with it.
