My favorite video game are the ones that can only work with this specific medium. I love God of War, but that would also make a good movie or book. Portal is just so uniquely a video game and it couldn't be told any other way. This is one of my all-time favorite games for a plethora of reasons. The aforementioned exclusivity of it video game nature, the puzzles, and the humor highlight why this game works so well my specific taste.

The titular portals are just one of the coolest systems in video game history. It's a simple concept but used to it's maximum potential. It lends to some memorably unique puzzles that involve geometry, physics, and timing. The game keeps the portal puzzles fresh throughout by introducing new things for the portals to interact with like the bridges and anti-gravity beams.

Like I said before, this game is funny. It may be the funniest game I've ever played. I love dry, deadpan humor, and characters like GLaDOS and Cave Johnson (voiced by the stupendous JK Simmons) nail the comedic timing of seemingly every joke they make. I've never laughed out loud playing a video game as much as I did playing Portal 2.

The first game is great too, but this sequel crafted something truly special. This is unapologetically one of my favorite games ever made.
