Sonic Adventure 2 is... an experience to say the least.
I feel the game has some of the highest highs and the lowest lows. Its jank can be extremely hard to work with. Whether it's the finicky camera angles of Sonic and Shadow, Tails and Eggman's clunky controls, or the struggle of finding Emeralds for Knuckles and Rouge (Five minutes was NOT plenty, Rouge), it definitely proved to be a frustrating experience from time to time.
However... I couldn't help but enjoy it. The thrill of speeding through whatever was in my way, shooting down multiple enemies and finally finding treasure proved to be more than enough to make up for the shortcomings. The story and characters were captivating, taking us on a thrill ride with twists and turns. I didn't understand the hype for Shadow until this game and now he's one of my favorites, as well as Rouge and Knuckles. And the climax is spectacular.
Please give this game a chance if you have any interest in this franchise. It'll be an experience you won't forget.
