At first I got kind of bored because I thought the game was too mechanically simple; there aren't any restrictions on how you can move Pokémon around the board and there isn't much strategy involved in just lining up three of a kind. However, when the game gets a little more difficult later on, it becomes beneficial to try and line up five or six of a kind to launch a scatter attack, hitting multiple enemies at once so you can clear sections quicker and not take as much damage in the build-up to the boss encounters, so that adds an amount of strategy. Additionally, it's really satisfying clearing the board when the Trozei chance activates. Even then the game is still kind of slow though, so it's still a pretty standard match-three type game.
