I liked High on Life. The humour is hit or miss, but it never really misses so hard I'm pissed or rolling my eyes, just kind of sitting there like its normal. It doesn't hit enough to where I think those few moments overway the whatever ones, but they were still good.

I found myself (at the beginning) just sitting there watching the shit on the TV's a bunch. I liked that stuff, and that Alien TV mostly compromised of Adult Swim crap, or Youtube Animator videos. That, combined with some of the voice actors, really made me think this was just a fun project Justin invited friends on to. Just going "yup, gonna make something with my friends" is cool. Like just getting Red Letter Media to have a fun commentary track for a REAL movie in this game is so awesome. Its crazy that a full ass movie is just in this game, in fact, there are FOUR, I find that really cool.

The guns blabbing doesn't annoy me at all really, I in fact wished they blabbed more. I thought this was gonna be the game where they blab incessantly, and when I think about Plague Tale: Requiem, THOSE were some characters who would not shut the fuck up. I over here, clapping like a baby with keys, just hoping for super sensory overload of everyone talking, and it didn't do it, maybe all the guns should talk AT ONCE. The gun who just gives birth is awesome, just a genuinely nice guy, i love him. Even once I got the shotgun frog, I just tucked Morty gun away most of the time after that; I wanted to hear what the other guns had to say more. Also Sweezy kind of pissed me off cause I just didn't like the voice actor.

The Guns as actual guns were kind of fun. Like the idea behind them kind of work except the gunplay is off in this game. There needs to be more feedback on hitting enemies, or some slight auto-aim or something. Morty gun being a grenade launcher that literally launches enemies that you can then JUGGLE is cool as fuck, too bad the juggle doesn't feel good. The shotgun sucks unless you happen to find a mod that lets his bullets explode mid air, making it feel way better to shoot (I found this mod early by cheesing with the jetpack, they locked it away past a later upgrade by the time you are in the area). His discs are also pretty cool, shooting discs that then can ping-pong back and forth if you melee them works better than the juggling, but the game lacks a visual clarity to make it super fun, but it pretty much nails it. Sweezy has a lot of shit going on, she's a needler, also kind of sniper, and has a time slow bubble; lots of cool stuff going on, I just found her weak to use. Creature is real fun on boss fights, just shoot his little babies at them and watch them melt at room temperature. I didn't really use his mind control stuff, seemed kind of pointless.

The guns are also used as an extension of exploration, since this game is kind of Metroidvania-y. I did enjoy the metroidvania style of movement progression, and I was getting similar dopamine hits when I was trying to clean up the chests a little at the end. Morty gun can flick walls like switches so you can either make them stop blocking you, or launch you far. Shotgun discs can embed in walls so you can climb them. Time slow can be used on fans so you can get past them. Creature babies can destroy some machines to stop force walls. Knifey is a grappling hook type thing, so he's fun. You also get a jetpack that makes traversing pretty fun. I like just trivializing areas by climbing to their edges and limits. The bad part is, I find exploration kind of bad. There are only like 3 areas to explore: a city (good), a forest planet (too much bushes/greenery to obscure shit), and a desert planet (the desert part is lame, but the city part is actually good). I think I kind of just felt overwhelmed when I was searching because the jetpack had all this verticality, much more confusing for searching.

The bosses honestly were mostly fun. Felt like I was winning by the skin of my teeth. Skrendel bros were probably the best ones.

Overall, I like this game and what it tries to do. Does it hit the mark?, no not really, but it doesn't fail miserably.

Extra thoughts:
-This game needs a FOV Slider BAD
-I swear to god in that fake-out tutorial, that first open combat room is just the same room from DOOM 2016
