Personally, I liked it. Apart from Paper Mario 1 on the Wii eshop (I got stuck at the Desert final boss) this was my first game in the series. I was decently familiar with the franchise and its discourse, I remember watching an entire 70 part playthrough of Super Paper Mario on an iPod when I was supposed to be in bed. I knew that fans hated Sticker Star and this one, but since I had no real attachments to the older games it didn't cloud my judgment. A fine game with some good music, although not that much I remember. Then again it has been a very very long time.
