ack ack ack SQUEEZE BANANA!!!

watched a certain YouTuber's video on the Quake 2 remaster where he kept asking why people don't like this game and ranted about how people are just parroting opinions and the people who've actually played it love it

replayed an hour of it and it turns out people don't like it because it's boring. the remaster's great and it plays fine and everything, it's just a bit boring. my genius detective work strikes again

Legendary game!

Contra seemed really hard at first and I thought I was gonna struggle for hours getting through this game.
I was proven gladly proven wrong. This game has a reputation for being difficult, but I think it's manageable for everyone as long as they are willing to learn the enemy patterns/spawns and the stages.
Ghosts n' Goblins had enemies spawning random places and enemy patterns changed each time you died, but Contra is much more consistent with it. I went from dying alot to completing most of the stages without dying one time. You really felt the progression and mastery which is peak gaming for me!

The gameplay is solid and smooth! Fast paced action that can be enjoyed alone or with a friend. This game really tests your reflexes and your understanding of the stages and enemies.
You have 3 lives for each continue and if you get hit once you die. You will respawn at the exact point you died on, so you don't have to restart the stage which is nice. If you get a game over you need to restart the stage.
The music is also really catchy and fits well with the fast paced action!

The game is really short only taking around 20 minutes if you know the stages. Even tho there are limited continues, I didn't find that frustrating cause of the short game length.
Getting a game over only meant learning the stages better.
For some that might still be frustrating, but you can always use the Konami code which gives you 30 lives instead of 3.
That make this game really approachable for everyone imo.

I highly recommend Contra to everyone who wants a short fun game that they need to master. But also don't wanna spend 10+ hours getting good at.

I give Contra 4/5.

For exactly 2 seconds it looked like I could dual wield rocket launchers which would've earned it an extra half star. That was not the case.
