Wow I sure hope there's no other metroid game announced in e3 2017 that people may be talking about around these times.
Samus Returns is an excellent return to form to the series, and a not so excellent standalone game. The way it instantly re-captured the thrilling exploration and item-based progression in a heartbeat, all with tight controlls and presentation, is truly marvelous, and shows how Mercury Steam were truly ready to get handed over the keys.

The game is... well, not without its flaws. At 10-ish hours it stands as the longest 2d metroid, which would be neat if it also wasn't the one with the most repetitive bosses and least unique areas / enviornments. Repetition is a little too rampant for my liking, and that greatly hurts its look compared to previous installments.

However, it is clear that the studio was just getting started, and that being a remake of a less than stellar gameboy game hurt their ability to fully deliver, so thank god for Dread.
