Initially I wasn't too keen on getting into BG3. I had some experience with cRPGs before this, including BG1 and BG2, and plenty of series veterans were not too thrilled with their BG3 experience. As you might imagine, BG3 is a departure from the series' roots, which has it's positives and negatives. For me personally, it was mostly negative.

Positives: best production value for a cRPG, multiple ways to approach a situation, dynamic reactions to any action you may take (mostly), amazing voice acting and music.

Negatives: creative flourishes aside, most of the dialogue does not meaningfully lead to anything, weak writing and mediocre story culminating in a boring 3rd Act, uneven and mediocre character writing (but there are exceptions), terrible antagonists, unbalanced combat which is very difficult at the beginning and becomes completely trivial by the end (in Tactician mode atleast), lots of playtime padding by encouraging players to check every single container for loot (although this is Larian's signature style), plenty of bugs and crashes which still require fixing, severe performance issues in Act 3 on the Steam deck (despite being rated Verified)

But all that being said, this is probably the most accurate representation of DnD in a video game. Big props to Larian for that. I enjoyed this game on my second try, but it didn't leave a lasting impression on me.
