Really fucking scary and heartbreaking, up until the end. This is a great survival game (not that I have much point of reference, it being one of the only survival/horrors I have ever played) with believable characters in a situation so much worse than death. The game has a valuable philosophical quality to the narrative that makes you feel absolutely devastated at certain points.

The end of the game was very lackluster, however. The conclusion was somewhat expected, but in the sense where I was waiting for something bigger, something entirely mind-blowing to happen, but it never really came. Killing the WAU is so incredibly anti-climactic, I thought that there would be so much more to this aspect of the story; it seemed like something bigger related to the WAU was being hinted at all along, and then it's just gone and you move on and nobody is there to care. Perhaps my understanding was just because I was expecting some insane plot twist based on the preconceived notions from reviews I had read, but I was definitely let down by the end.

Still, SOMA made me feel very upset one second and about to piss myself the next, and was as a whole a wonderfully existential experience.

7.5/10
