Base Game and Drizzle Season 2022 Review

This game is full of flaws let's make this clear , BUT it was my introduction to the series and i have to say this : i fell in love with it. From the long past 2015 i've always snobbed Splatoon without even touching it. Then i rembered that my favourite game (Xenoblade Chronicles X) was something that i wasn't interested in the first place. I just picked it up without knowing anything and it was a hell of a discover. Same thing here. Sometime you just have to dive in.

So ... Return of the Mammalians was really good. It does a great job at teaching new players every mechanic in the game with loads of creative and shorts levels that challenges you in different ways everytime. Some of them are studied for specific types of weapons and , depending on what you chosse , you can make your life easier or harder. I really liked the themes and the characters even if they were something simple. Soundtrack is gourgeous in this game and after finishing it i spent hours and days serching for Splatoon Music. The new movement mechanics are also great and squidroll makes traversing a lot smoother and faster than what you can give credit for , even in multiplayer matches. Usually Multiplayer focused games doen't put substantial effort in the single player campaign , but this game is one of the exceptions. It was great and i had a blast with it.

Now onto the Multiplayer. The weapon variety and kits are great , new specials added are so interactive and fun to use even for newbies like me. Zipcaster , Crab Tank , Tri-strike and Trizooka , Big Bubbler ... The only downside in this department was tenta Missile , but at the game announcement everyone just complained about that. The game at it's core is so fun and fast and at some point it just became a addicting. Unfortunately a lot of good features that were present in the other Splatoon Games aren't availeble here. Matchmaking is awful especially the more you progress in the game , servers are ... powered potatoes and , especially the first month , crashes and disconnections were the norm every fucking day.
Salmon Run is an awsome PVE Arcade experience and it's hard as balls. I love it. My complaints here are the brutal grind required for buyng things on the grizzco shop and the matchmaking system. It's too easy to get to EGGSECUTIVE VP and than encountering loads of bots that just screw your games over.
Tableturf is a nice little addition as a side mode , but , just like turf war , it's foundamentally flawed and there isn't much to it that's not Blocking your opponent turf progression with heavy wall cards. Also it would benefit a lot with Online play ...
The biggest problem here however are the maps for multiplayer. Most of them are just awful chockpoints and long hallways where flanking is almost impossible against the right teams and Weapons Comps. Not to mention how hard they butchered the most beloved Splatoon 1 stages. Thoose things held so much back the true potential of this game ....

In cocnclusion , even with it's numerous flaws , Splatoon 3 is one of the greatest discoveries i made in the last years and i'm really happy i gave this game and series a chance. Now let's see how they will handle the updates.
