Cave Story is a really good little metroidvania. It's fairly small scale and quaint compared to a lot of other indie metroidvanias but it's still really good. The combat and bosses are fun and challenging, the story is really emotional and enhanced greatly by the amazing soundtrack. The controls and platforming are also really solid and it felt very satisfying to level up all the different blasters and try and maintain them on the highest level.
