I agree with your criticism that there is a lot of repetition, but i loved the combat in Nioh 2, first few hours are a struggle but when you get used to it, its actually easier than Souls.
Lies of P is harder so be prepared.

The trick around mastering Nioh 2 is managing your Ki, i found Spears to be a good starter weapon, space yourself properly and poke, click on the dodge frequently to replenish Ki.

But if you are not feeling it, its ok, the game isn't a must play experience, its just for people who want a TeamNinja X Souls mixup.

@HowaboutNora The thing I like about the FromSoftware games is mostly the dungeon crawling and the simple, yet challenging, combat.
Too repetitive, especially if the combat doesn't click.
