(*Played on PC with SADX mod loader)

This game is flawed. By all accounts. It's janky, most of the other gameplay styles aren't fun (Big, Amy), and in general time has not been kind to it one bit.

But I still love it.

For everything this game does wrong, it managed to bring classic Sonic gameplay to 3D, and laid the groundwork for the next decade, and I think it's still pretty damn fun for the most part. I'll still replay Sonic and Tails' story every so often just for the hell of it. It still has that replayability charm the classic games have just with getting to the end as fast as possible.

Tonally and visually I think this game is still second to none as well, at least for the original Dreamcast release/conversion mod. Even for as stilted and awkward as the cutscenes and the overall plot is, there's this charm to it all you can't shake. This game brought all the personalities people know Sonic and his friends for today, and despite future games completely fucking it up (Tails in Forces), it's still cute and fun to watch.

And this game's music is also amazing. If I had to rate this games' soundtrack alone, it would be a pure 10/10. Legitimately it's one of the best soundtracks I've heard in any game ever, and I never get tired of it.

If you haven't tried SA1 or were turned off by releases like SADX, I would totally try it again on PC with the Dreamcast conversion mods. It's flawed, but it's still pretty fun, and DEFINITELY not as bad as some "fans" make it out to be.
