sleek and dark even by the standards of a series that operates on those terms. cranks the industrial hellscape vibes to infinity both sonically and aesthetically and i'm here for all of it

route system is badass - the constant feeling of impending doom absolutely menacing. enemy ACs are fun to fight and can be seriously trying (not to mention raven personalities are actually memorable now too)

weapon balancing is also at an all time high. seriously, i feel like just about anything is viable in this game if you've got the skill and know-how to make it work. i never changed up my builds - or saved multiple ones - nearly as much in any other game in the series. i did that constantly here

i have exactly two gripes:

1. there's one ending in particular that's pretty much the objectively most climactic and finalizing of them all. it's by far the most difficult and the most cinematic too. this was my second route... so the following ones felt much more whelming than they probably should have

2. mopping up stray missions for 100% is a bit of a chore. if you could just play any mission out of sequence after getting the main endings - that'd be perfect. i don't really think the superboss is significant or challenging enough to justify an additional five playthroughs (minimum) just to access it.

that's the extent of my negativity. this is a killer fucking game. old gen seriously ended with a bang

Damn dawg you really on an AC bender. I got to the second one and dropped it cuz I just couldn’t get into it. Any recommends on where I should pick it back up at?

@zoda yeah 2nd gen is the weakest point without a doubt. i like 2 but it just feels like more gen 1 with overall lesser mission design than the first game in the series. 2aa is a mess as well imo even if it does have some really good missions between all the slop. i'd say try 3 if you're interested in a more fully fledged and reimagined rendition of ac1. otherwise if you're curious how that game would go if it had an actual sequel in the same setting, try silent line

if you're tired of the old controls in general tho just go straight to nexus. the general plot of ac3 is the same shit as 1 and pretty much nothing happens in silent line, so there's not much you'd be missing there

also worth noting that gen 3 introduces dual wielding in general. so it has that big mechanical difference going for it. ac3 is a pretty different beast from 1/2 for that alone

Word, think imma give 3 a spin to see how it is and if I don’t like it I’ll jump into nexus. Appreciate the info, need more mecha in general to play and I don’t wanna write off this series completely after only giving two a chance. The dual wielding in itself sounds great but I’m guessing that’s solely for guns.. do any of them have flexible melee options or is that just not a thing in this series ?

@zoda ac3 introduces right-armed blades, yes. left/right arm weaponry doesn't really come together to the fullest until nexus tho. ac3 is a pretty wildly unbalanced game in general and nexus/lr rework everything

it's worth noting ac2 still has dual-blade arms, but that's not quite the same thing
