when i was 12 i thought this was pretty damn good! then after 2009 i heard it exclusively referred to as an infamous ripoff - despite them being released literally two weeks apart - and i guess somewhere down the line remembered prototype as "that game i liked as a kid that prolly wasn't really all that great"

nah. if anything it was better than i first thought. this fucking destroys infamous. enjoy your grey sewers and tps lightning bolts (or lightning grenades if you really wanna switch it up!) meanwhile i'll be elbow dropping tanks, throwing cars at helicopters and ripping fuckers in half

ok so why not 10

my main issue is really just that i wish it was a little longer. typically 6-7 hours is pretty perfect for me, but both as a kid and an adult i plowed through to the end super quickly and still wished it kept going. there's unlockable difficulties though so i'm probably gonna run hard mode soonish - definitely a very replayable game at the least

my other problem is the targeting system. it locks onto whatever the game assumes is the most immediate threat, but sometimes you'll be trying to target a helicopter and it'll focus on some military dickhead on the ground. it's not too bad, and it can be corrected, but it still causes some frustration here and there

if prototype had a tighter narrative and a bit more length it could possibly be a 10 for me

I've been enjoying infamous lately, but holy shit now i gotta hit up this. Really enjoying reading your reviews this afternoon.

@janssenjam thanks. i appreciate that

i do think it's worth noting that the two games have little to nothing in common, but i'd recommend prototype regardless. it's basically a spiritual successor to hulk ultimate destruction (another very cool game) made by the same dev team. borrows a lot of the same mechanics and animations too. you just play as venom an edgy east coast dude instead of a green giant

infamous on the other hand is effectively a third person shooter. so the commonalities are strictly superficial

also, do be aware that prototype 2 is NOT the same dev team despite being developed by the same company. imo it's a much worse game with a total disregard for what makes this one good, but that's a contentious point
