Wide Ocean Big Jacket
Delightful! I didn't have huge expectations going into this, and I think that's ideal. It's a little narrative jaunt. A slice-of-life of four people on a camping trip.
You're very much jumping directly into the middle of these oddballs' lives, and it's genuinely nice to learn about them over the short runtime of the game. The characters feel earnestly made, and the experience is left very personal as a result. There's a bit of conflict, and a bit of confused emotions, but it all feels very grounded. And without the context of what happens before this game in these character's lives, you just have to live with the experience.
Which is exactly this point. This is an experience. It's not meant to be idealized or perfect. But it is very wholesome and nice because of its proximity to reality. I can believe these people did go on a camping trip to the beach. There is no bombast here, or big moment of climax, or triumph, or profundity. There was never supposed to be. It's just a trip to the beach. Four people made memories together. And you, as the player, are one of those people privy to this private moment. You'll remember this. That's nice.
