Metroid Prime
(Played through Metroid Prime Trilogy on Wii)
It's been a little under a year since my last time playing a Metroid game. Since then, I haven't really played any games like it. I intended to play Fusion for my next dive into the series, or perhaps give Hollow Knight another try, but a certain announcement made me want to revisit this game for the first time in three years. With my reformed mindset about these games, I stepped in and picked up right where I left off and was not disappointed!
I always liked this game and everything it was, I just didn't really know how to handle getting lost at the time. One thing I have to give credit for this game for is its amazing atmosphere. The scenery (which I really have to give props for looking this good for a game in 2002, god damn) combined with the phenomenal soundtrack paints a wonderful picture of the world of Tallon IV. I'm genuinely a little baffled that they got a 3D Metroidvania working this well for there first attempt, with a brand new studio nonetheless. They really nailed it first try!
Sometimes I got a little frustrated (those Fucking Birds that I Hate), but that's something I can look past for all the good this game does. Out of the two games I've played so far, I think I prefer Dread a bit more than this, but that is not to discredit this game in the slightest. It's a pretty tough pick, and they both have parts that they excel in about equally. I think it's fair to say I'm a real Metroid fan now, and I can't wait to hopefully play the other Prime games before 4 comes out, which with this completion, has breathed in a new excitement for me. Can't wait :)
