my favorite game idgaf.

i received it as a gift in 2019 (i think), played it for like half an hour, then forgot about it until maybe 2 years later where it wrecked my shit.

i think i may not actually be too fond of the metroidvania style (getting lost and going in circles and being clueless is a big part of them to me because im dumb as hell, and its not always enjoyable), but i really enjoyed this one. i loved the art and the atmosphere of the different areas and the music was really good and there was just something in me that wanted to keep going even if i hit curves i wasnt ready for (my first complete playthrough, i spent an embarrassing amount of time stuck on the second battle with hornet at kingdoms edge BUT I PERSEVERED !!! --the gamer)

i think the boss battles are all pretty fun (though i never learned to appreciate uumuu or markoth. sorry. or elder hu for that matter) or otherwise serve their purpose pretty well.

the way the game hands you little snippets of lore is fun. the hollow knight boss battle is heartbreaking, especially with the music. their character--what little you see of it--is a big tragedy for sure, but its a big tragedy in a bunch of other big and small tragedies. i loved the way hallownest felt.

(the path of pain is also heartbreaking but for a different reason)

- probably disjointed review as all hell but be niceys to me.
